Job summary

Trimble is hiring a Software Engineer to bridge embedded C++ control systems with cloud-connected applications in Christchurch, New Zealand. You will develop features for the Earthworks system, combining embedded software with modern web technologies to enhance productivity and safety on job sites.

You will work across a global engineering team, contributing to the full software lifecycle, including design, testing, and documentation, while aligning with CTCT’s standards and practices.

In this role, you will be key to developing and evolving our flagship Earthworks system, bridging embedded C++ control systems with cloud connectivity and modern web applications. You'll work in a collaborative global engineering framework where your contributions directly improve machine productivity, operator safety, and jobsite efficiency.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

• Develop dynamic, cross-platform system features with a strong focus on enabling customers to commission and operate heavy machinery productively using a wide array of sensing devices.
• Build Embedded & Web Solutions: Write robust embedded Linux software using C++ while crafting modern web applications with Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Architect Distributed Systems: Contribute to distributed system architecture by identifying subdomains and establishing bounded contexts.
• Collaborate Globally: Work alongside domain experts and software engineers across international sites to deliver customer value.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: Apply fundamental engineering practices to ensure predictability, high quality, and continuous improvement in the delivery lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid professional experience developing embedded software in C++.
• Hands-on experience building web applications using TypeScript and Angular (or other modern JavaScript frameworks).
• Demonstrated experience in full lifecycle software engineering, including specification, automated testing, CI/CD, and technical documentation.

Bonus Points For Experience working with embedded devices in industrial or IoT settings.

Strong collaboration and communication skills within global, cross-functional teams.
