About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Site Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across all construction sites in Queenstown . This role is paramount to protecting our workforce and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols, conducting site inspections, and providing safety training to personnel. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable in safety legislation, and committed to fostering a culture of safety awareness throughout the project lifecycle in the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive site-specific health and safety plans.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide safety induction training and toolbox talks to all site personnel.
• Ensure all safety equipment is available, functional, and properly used by workers.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and management on all safety-related matters.
• Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, and incident reports.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage proactive safety behavior among all staff.

Requirements

• Relevant certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NOSA, SAMTRAC, or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Site Safety Officer or in a similar health and safety role within the construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHSA Act).
• Excellent observational skills and a keen eye for detail.
• Strong communication, training, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage safety protocols on busy construction sites.
