Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Mine Safety Manager to champion safety initiatives at our Queenstown operations. You will design and manage comprehensive health and safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a proactive safety culture across all mining activities.

The ideal candidate has a degree or diploma in health and safety or mine engineering, 8+ years in safety management with mining experience, and CMSP or equivalent is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in health and safety management, with mining sector exposure.
• CMSP or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
• In-depth knowledge of mining health and safety legislation (South Africa) is noted in the job spec.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust health and safety management systems aligned with legal requirements and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to mitigate potential dangers.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees and contractors.

About the Role

This critical role involves developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive health and safety programs to protect all personnel and assets. You will be responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring that all mining activities adhere to the highest safety standards. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with extensive knowledge of mining safety regulations and a passion for creating a secure working environment in the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust health and safety management systems aligned with legal requirements and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to mitigate potential dangers.
• Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation and standards.
• Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization, encouraging employee involvement.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Mine Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in health and safety management, with at least 5 years in the mining sector.
• Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
• In-depth knowledge of South African mining health and safety legislation.
• Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.
• Experience in incident investigation and risk management techniques.
