Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a vigilant Safety Officer to champion health and safety initiatives at a mine site near Queenstown, New Zealand. You will implement and monitor compliance with safety regulations and company policies, conduct inspections, training and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.

You will lead development of the Health and Safety Management System, deliver training, investigate incidents, and maintain comprehensive safety records in a demanding mining environment.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Safety Management or SAMTRAC
• Registered with a professional body such as SAIOSH
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Safety Officer, preferably mining/heavy industry
• Thorough knowledge of the OHS Act and regulations
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and training skills
• Ability to work independently in a demanding site environment near Queenstown

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits for compliance with OHS Act and standards
• Develop, implement, and maintain the site’s Health and Safety Management System
• Deliver safety training programs to all employees and contractors
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses; document findings and action plans
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, communication and leadership
• Maintain safety records, statistics and reports as required by legislation and policy

About the Role
