Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance in Auckland seeks a senior Site Reliability Engineering Lead to build and lead a dedicated SRE practice. The role focuses on shifting from reactive support to engineering-led reliability, overseeing incident management, and shaping proactive prevention strategies for a large member base.

You will manage a high-performing team, drive reliability initiatives, and partner with product and engineering teams to design resilient platforms.

Qualifications

Experience with incident management processes and tooling (ServiceNow, PagerDuty).
Proven ability to lead the transition from reactive to proactive reliability practices.
Experience building and growing engineering teams that deliver reliability outcomes.

Responsibilities

Lead and prioritise the Site Reliability Engineering team, aligning to reliability and resilience objectives.
Build a high-performing team with engaged, capable people who self-organise across functions.
Oversee incident management and operational performance, driving proactive prevention and engineering-led solutions.
Identify opportunities to improve observability, reliability and recovery through tooling and design.
Partner with product and engineering to embed reliability into platform design and delivery.
Drive adoption of SRE practices, including automation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Use data from incidents to inform improvement initiatives and roadmaps.
Organise the team to provide proactive incident response, including out of hours.
