Job summary

Fulton Hogan in Auckland is seeking a Site Engineer (Paving) to lead the planning, coordination and delivery of asphalt paving works, working hands-on with crews and subcontractors to keep projects moving safely and to a high technical standard.

The role offers growth potential toward Project Engineer or Contracts Engineer positions. We value proactive individuals who can take on more responsibility and advance their capability within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level qualification or higher in Civil/Construction.
• 2-5 years civil industry experience, ideally in asphalt paving or related fields.
• Good understanding of asphalt paving works, plant, site sequencing and drawings/specs.
• Exposure to QA and compliance processes including test plans and delivery dockets.
• Experience coordinating crews, subcontractors or suppliers with a focus on safety and environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise asphalt paving works delivered by crews and subcontractors.
• Plan labour, plant and materials to keep work on programme and within budget.
• Develop practical engineered solutions to site challenges with the team.
• Ensure work is delivered safely, to quality standards and compliance requirements.
• Identify and control safety, environmental risks and drive continuous improvement on site.

We’re looking for a Site Engineer (Paving) to help lead the planning, coordination and delivery of asphalt paving works. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with crews, subcontractors and leaders on the ground to keep jobs moving safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.

This role also a strong growth opportunity, with scope to develop into a Project Engineer or Contracts Engineer role over time. If you’re ready to build your capability, take on more responsibility and keep moving forward, this role gives you room to do exactly that.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

• Manage, coordinate and supervise assigned asphalt paving works delivered by our crews and subcontractors.
• Plan and allocate labour, plant and materials to keep work running efficiently and on programme.
• Develop practical engineered solutions with the team to overcome technical and logistical site challenges.
• Ensure work is delivered safely, to quality requirements, within budget and in line with resource consent conditions.
• Identify and control health, safety and environmental risks, while driving better processes and continuous improvement on site.

• Experience in a similar role, or a relevant tertiary qualification such as BE or NZCE.
• 2-5 years of civil industry experience, ideally in asphalt paving, pavement maintenance, or standing contracts.
• Good understanding of asphalt paving works, plant, site sequencing, and reading drawings and specifications.
• Exposure to QA and compliance processes, including test plans, lot records, check sheets, and delivery dockets.
• Experience coordinating crews, subcontractors, or suppliers, with a strong focus on safety, environment, and traffic management.
• Strong communication and organisation skills, a proactive attitude, and flexibility to work night shift or weekends when needed.
