Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Kick-start your career. Build real projects. Go places.

Looking for a civil engineering role that’s hands-on, fast-paced, and anything but boring?
Want real responsibility, real projects, and the chance to grow quickly with support from people who want to see you succeed?

At MAP Projects, we’re on the lookout for another early-career Site Engineer who’s keen to learn, step up, and be part of an ambitious team delivering exciting civil projects across the Mid to Upper North Island and the Pacific Islands.

Who we are

MAP Projects is a heavy civil engineering contractor based in the Bay of Plenty. Our work takes us wherever the challenge is- across the North Island and offshore into the Pacific. We’ve recently completed two large Dam projects, a Wharf upgrade in the Cook Islands and a hydro power scheme and transmission line in Vanuatu, with more exciting projects ahead.

What you’ll love about working with us

This is a role for someone who wants more than sitting behind a desk. You’ll get exposure to the full project lifecycle and be trusted early on.

You’ll thrive here if you:

Like seeing the big picture, not just your own task

Enjoy solving practical problems and thinking on your feet

Are comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and sharing ideas

Can work independently but also enjoy being part of a close-knit crew

If you’re practical, curious, and keen to build confidence in a real construction environment, you’ll fit right in.

What we’re looking for

A Civil Engineering degree or diploma

Around 2+ years’ experience preferred, but we’re open to less if you bring:

A great attitude

A willingness to learn

Initiative and enthusiasm

The ability to work with a diverse team and pull together toward shared goals

Strong practical thinking and follow-through

A genuine commitment to Health & Safety- it’s critical in what we do

Experience with programming, procurement, or subcontractors is a plus (but not essential—we’ll teach you)

What you’ll get from us
  • A clear career pathway, with progression through Project Engineer, Project Manager, Operations Manager, and potential future shareholding
  • A competitive salary aligned to your experience, plus performance incentives
  • Company vehicle, phone, laptop, and project accommodation
  • Huge variety in your day-to-day - from flying survey drones and building digital models to working directly with crews on site
  • Opportunities to work on overseas projects, including hydro and infrastructure work across the Pacific Islands
  • Exposure to major clients such as Local and Regional Councils, NZDF, the Energy Sector and international development projects
  • A family-owned business that genuinely cares about its people
  • Supportive leadership who trust you, value new ideas, and don’t micromanage
Sounds like you?

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
