Job summary

T&G Global Limited in Hastings, NZ, is seeking a hands-on Shift Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team during peak packing season. You’ll maintain and improve packhouse equipment, troubleshoot faults, and drive root-cause analysis to improve uptime.

This permanent, full-time role requires a recognised engineering trade qualification, at least 4 years of experience in production machinery, and a strong safety mindset.

We're looking for an experienced Shift Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team in Hastings. If you enjoy troubleshooting machinery, working in a fast-paced production environment, and take pride in finding the root cause of issues rather than just fixing symptoms, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving our packhouse equipment to achieve world-class uptime.

You’ll be involved in both preventative and reactive maintenance, working closely with production teams, contractors, suppliers, and fellow engineers to keep operations running smoothly.

This role operates on a rotating roster during our 36-week packing season, so flexibility and adaptability are important to support changing operational needs.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing preventative maintenance across packhouse equipment
• Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults and breakdowns
• Identifying root causes and implementing long‑term solutions
• Supporting maintenance planning and work order management
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records within our CMMS system

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

• A recognised engineering trade qualification
• At least 4 years’ experience maintaining production machinery
• Experience working in a high-speed manufacturing or production environment
• Strong fault‑finding and root cause analysis skills
• Experience using workshop machinery and tools
• Good computer skills and familiarity with maintenance systems
• A strong focus on workplace health and safety
• The ability to work shifts and be flexible during the peak apple season

It would be advantageous if you also have:

• Experience with MEX or a similar CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System)
• Experience in food manufacturing, processing, or packhouse operations
• Relevant certifications such as LOTO, Permit Issuer/Receiver, Working at Heights, or Confined Space
• Knowledge of PLCs, pneumatics, and automated systems
