Job summary

Franklin Smith Limited in Southland is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Trade Worker to join our team on commercial, industrial and light fabrication projects. You will read technical drawings, cut, fold, shape, weld and assemble sheet metals such as stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel to high standards.

We expect at least 2 years of relevant experience, proficiency in TIG/MIG welding, and the ability to work safely from shop drawings.

Qualifications

2+ years of relevant sheet metal experience.
Able to pass police check and drug test.

Responsibilities

Study blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job and material requirements.
Select metal stock (stainless steel, galvanised iron, mild steel, aluminium, copper) and check sizes.
Mark out metal stock with reference points and lines using templates and gauges.
Cut metal stock using hand tools, guillotines and drills.
Shape and form metal stock using folding machines, rollers, presses and hammers.
Weld, rivet, solder and assemble components into final products.
Finish products by polishing, filing, sanding and cleaning.
May repair damaged sheet metal products and components.
May specialise in fabrication or on-site assembly of sheet metal products.
May produce aircraft sheet metal components requiring advanced drawing and calculating skills.
