Job summary

Cable Bay Wine Ltd on Waiheke Island, Auckland, is seeking a Service Manager to lead our front-of-house team and deliver world-class hospitality.

The role combines service leadership, training, rostering, and guest engagement, with 40–55 hours per week and a requirement of at least two years' leadership experience and relevant certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of hospitality leadership experience.
• Experience in a restaurant, winery, or events setting.
• Holder of Manager’s Certificate and LCQ (or willing to obtain).
• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Proficient with POS (MenuMate) and booking systems (ResDiary).

Responsibilities

• Lead FOH operations during service and manage shifts.
• Plan menus in consultation with Chefs.
• Design, deliver, and record staff training and onboarding.
• Recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
• Oversee rostering and seasonal staffing.
• Ensure health regulations compliance and cleanliness.

OUR LOCATION

Waiheke Island is a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. We enjoy vineyards, olive groves, and sea views overlooking the stunning Hauraki Gulf. Waiheke is famous for its wonderful beaches, fishing, bush walks, vineyards, and restaurants.

The Service Manager leads our front-of-house team and ensures exceptional guest experiences across all areas of Cable Bay. This hands-on role combines daily operations with leadership, involving running shifts, training staff, managing rosters, supporting special functions, and contributing to the business’s success. It's a full-time role. The requirement is a minimum of 2 years of experience in a comparable venue or a minimum Bachelor's Degree. Hours: Minimum 40 – Maximum 55 per week.

Key Responsibilities

Service Leadership & Training

• Plan menus in consultation with Chefs.
• Lead development and implementation of service standards across all FOH outlets.
• Design, deliver, and record staff training and onboarding programmes.
• Mentor and coach team members to maintain a positive service culture.

Shift Management & Operations

• Run FOH operations during service, ensuring smooth delivery and high guest satisfaction.
• Conduct team briefings, allocate sections, and manage guest engagement.
• Oversee special functions, ensuring seamless delivery of food, wine, and service.
• Ensure dining facilities comply with health regulations and remain clean, functional, and of suitable appearance.

Staffing & Rostering Support

• Select, train, and supervise FOH and kitchen staff.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
• Support rostering and seasonal staffing plans with Restaurant Managers.

Financial & Administrative Duties

• Assist in arranging the purchasing and pricing of goods within the budget.
• Maintain records of stock levels and financial transactions.
• Complete shift reports, cash-ups, and compliance documentation.
• Support cost control and revenue goals.

Guest Engagement

• Confer with customers to assess satisfaction with meals and service.
• Handle guest complaints calmly and professionally.
• Take reservations, greet guests, and assist with orders when required.

Skills & Experience

• Proven hospitality leadership experience for two years, ideally in a restaurant, winery, or events setting.
• Strong food, wine, and service knowledge.
• Experience in training, mentoring, or coaching hospitality staff.
• Proficient with POS (MenuMate), booking systems (ResDiary), and cash handling.
• Holder of Manager’s Certificate and LCQ (or willing to obtain).

Conditions
