Job summary

Harrison Grierson in Auckland seeks a Senior Transport Planner to lead transport planning assessments and advisory work across urban development and infrastructure projects. Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, engineering, planning, geography, or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in transport planning, ideally in a consultancy.
• Experience preparing transport assessments and providing strategic transport advice for land development and infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand transport planning policies, guidelines, and consenting processes.
• Proven project management skills, including managing scope, programme, budget, and client expectations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience mentoring or supporting the development of less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Integrated Transport Assessments, transport impact assessments, and other technical reports.
• Provide transport planning input into feasibility studies, masterplanning, concept design, consenting, and business case processes.

• Manage project scope, programme, budget, and quality to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with clients, councils, developers, mana whenua, and project partners.
• Support business development through proposal preparation, client engagement, and identification of future opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of technical capability across the team.

About the role

Our Transportation team works with local and central government, developers, and private sector clients across Aotearoa to deliver practical and sustainable transport solutions. From integrated transport planning and traffic assessments through to transport advice for urban development and infrastructure projects, we help create connected communities that work for everyone.

As a Senior Transport Planner, you'll play a key role in delivering transport planning and advisory services across a diverse range of projects. Working closely with engineers, planners, surveyors, and urban designers, you'll provide transport planning expertise from feasibility and concept development through to consenting and delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

About you

We're looking for an experienced transport planner who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, engineering, planning, geography, or a related discipline.

• 7+ years' experience in transport planning, ideally within a consultancy environment.

• Experience preparing transport assessments and providing strategic transport advice for land development and infrastructure projects.

• Strong knowledge of New Zealand transport planning policies, guidelines, and consenting processes.
