Job summary

Harrison Grierson in Auckland seeks a Senior Transport Planner to lead transport planning assessments and advisory work across urban development and infrastructure projects. You will work with engineers, planners, surveyors and urban designers to translate feasibility into practical recommendations.

The role demands strong NZ transport policy knowledge, client relations, and mentoring of junior staff, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes within scope and budget.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, engineering, planning, geography, or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in transport planning, ideally in a consultancy.
• Experience preparing transport assessments and providing strategic transport advice for land development and infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand transport planning policies, guidelines, and consenting processes.
• Proven project management skills, including managing scope, programme, budget, and client expectations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience mentoring or supporting the development of less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver transport planning assessments and advice across urban development and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review Integrated Transport Assessments, transport impact assessments, and other technical reports.
• Provide transport planning input into feasibility studies, masterplanning, concept design, consenting, and business case processes.
• Undertake transport analysis and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations.
• Manage project scope, programme, budget, and quality to deliver successful project outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with clients, councils, developers, mana whenua, and project partners.
• Support business development through proposal preparation, client engagement, and identification of future opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of technical capability across the team.
