Job summary

GHD is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead and deliver diverse infrastructure projects in Hamilton, New Zealand. The role combines technical leadership, mentoring and client engagement within a global consultancy known for quality and collaboration.

You will be responsible for leading planning, design and construction oversight, monitoring project execution, and coordinating contract activities to ensure quality, schedule and budget targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 8–15 years of professional engineering experience, ideally toward CPEng.
  • Proven design experience across infrastructure projects.
  • Strong client-relationship and delivery mindset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to mentor others.

We’re seeking a driven and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Hamilton and help lead and deliver diverse, high-profile projects across New Zealand.

This role offers the ideal blend of technical leadership, mentoring, and client engagement within a globally connected, well-established consultancy known for its quality and collaborative culture.

The Role
  • Lead the planning, design and construction oversight of complex infrastructure projects from concept to delivery.
  • Monitor and manage project execution to ensure quality, schedule and budget targets are met.
  • Conduct engineering inspections, interpret drawings/specifications and recommend remedial works when required.
  • Coordinate contract and project management activities including subcontractor liaison and stakeholder communications.
  • Mentor and support project teams, fostering innovation, process improvement and continuous learning.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret project data to support decision making and deliver client-driven outcomes.
  • Maintain currency with engineering standards, best practices and emerging technologies within the infrastructure sector.
About You
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 8–15 years of professional engineering experience, ideally working toward or holding CPEng certification.
  • Demonstrated design experience across a broad range of infrastructure projects
  • A proactive, self-starting mindset with a strong drive to shape and grow your career.
  • Excellent client-relationship capability, you build trusted partnerships and recognise opportunities to add value.
  • Proven project delivery mindset – you thrive in delivering high quality, collaborative outcomes for clients and project teams alike.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, comfortable using engineering tools and software.
