Job summary

ASB Bank is establishing a Pega Centre of Excellence (CoE) and seeks a Senior Test Lead to define and embed testing strategy, standards and guardrails across the Pega ecosystem. You will partner with product owners, architects and risk stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and customer-focused solutions.

You’ll lead test strategy, reusable assets, and metrics, guiding squads from discovery through deployment while driving automation and improvements in quality engineering practices.

ASB is establishing a Pega Centre of Excellence (CoE) to provide enterprise-wide governance, standards, assurance, reusable practices and expert support across all Pega squads. As our Pega CoE Senior Test Lead, you will define and embed the testing strategy, standards and quality guardrails for the Pega ecosystem, helping squads deliver reliable, secure and customer-centred solutions.

You will be the CoE’s trusted quality engineering adviser, partnering with Product Owners, Pega architects, engineers, delivery leads and risk stakeholders. You will lead test strategy and assurance for complex initiatives, establish reusable testing assets and metrics, and support squads to build quality throughout the delivery lifecycle—from discovery and design through deployment and production validation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define, maintain and promote the enterprise Pega test strategy, quality standards, templates, guardrails and assurance framework.
• Provide independent quality governance across Pega initiatives, including test approach reviews, risk-based assurance, entry and exit criteria, and release-readiness recommendations.
• Lead testing for complex or strategically important Pega changes, covering functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, data migration and production-validation activities.
• Set the direction for Pega test automation, including reusable frameworks, automated regression coverage, pipeline integration and sustainable test data practices.
• Create and evolve a generic test automation framework that Pega squads can reuse for common Pega features
• Using AI where appropriate to accelerate test design, script development, maintenance and analysis.
• Ensure appropriate non-functional assurance for performance, resilience, accessibility, security and operational readiness, working with relevant specialists.
• Partner with Product Owners, Enterprise Test Leads, Business Architects, System Architects, Engineers and delivery teams to make requirements testable and embed quality early.
• Define meaningful quality metrics and use evidence to communicate risks, defects, trends and recommendations to delivery teams and governance forums.
• Coach testers and cross-functional squad members, strengthening capability in Pega testing, automation, exploratory testing and risk-based decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to reuse test assets, improve environments and test data, reduce delivery friction and continuously improve quality engineering practices.

You are an experienced senior test and quality engineering leader who can move confidently between strategy, governance and hands‑on delivery. You understand how Pega solutions behave across channels, integrations, rules, data and environments, and you translate that understanding into proportionate, risk-based assurance.

You bring a pragmatic and collaborative approach: setting clear expectations without creating unnecessary process. You are comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, constructively challenging delivery decisions and developing others to lift consistency, automation and quality outcomes across multiple squads.

• Significant experience leading testing or quality engineering in a complex enterprise environment, ideally across multiple delivery squads.
• Strong knowledge of Pega applications, rules-driven workflows, case management, integrations, data and deployment practices; hands‑on Pega testing experience is essential.
• Demonstrated experience defining test strategies, quality standards, assurance models and risk‑based approaches across the software delivery lifecycle.
• Proven capability across functional, integration, API, end‑to‑end, regression and exploratory testing, with strong defect management and root‑cause analysis skills.
• Experience designing and building reusable UI test automation frameworks using Selenium or Playwright, with API automation, source control and CI/CD pipeline integration; practical experience using AI to improve test design, script development, maintenance and analysis efficiency.
• Sound understanding of non‑functional testing, including performance, resilience, accessibility and security assurance, and when to engage specialists.
• Experience with test environments, test data management, service virtualisation or mocking, and production‑readiness validation.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, communicate quality risk clearly and balance customer outcomes, regulatory obligations and delivery priorities.
• Experience coaching testers, engineers and cross‑functional teams and contributing to a quality engineering community of practice.
• ISTQB Certified Tester qualification at Foundation Level or above, or an equivalent recognised software testing certification is required
• ISTQB Advanced Level Test Management or Test Analyst, or the current equivalent pathway is preferred
• Pega Certified System Architect or Pega Certified Senior System Architect is preferred; relevant Pega testing experience may be considered in place of certification.
• A recognised agile testing certification, such as ISTQB Agile Tester, and relevant automation, performance or security testing certifications are preferred
• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry is advantageous.
