Job summary

The University of Canterbury is seeking an Information Technology professional to manage and improve a multi-platform computing environment across Linux, Windows and MacOS. You will develop software and automated tools to support teaching and research, while upgrading systems and ensuring secure, reliable operations with robust backup and disaster recovery capabilities.

Applicants should have extensive Linux/Windows/MacOS administration experience, 3+ years in software development, strong

Qualifications

7+ years’ computer systems administration in large, multi-user, multi-platform environments (Linux preferred).
3+ years’ software development experience with technical documentation.
Strong knowledge across programming languages, scripting and fundamentals.
Hands-on administration of Linux, Windows and MacOS environments.
Experience with modern web technologies and software troubleshooting.
Relational database administration experience would be advantageous.
Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Computer Science or Software Engineering (NZQA Level 8+).

Responsibilities

Manage and continuously improve the Department’s multi-platform computing environment across Linux, Windows and MacOS.
Develop software and automated solutions to support teaching and research.
Upgrade systems, infrastructure and applications with secure, reliable operation and disaster recovery.
Troubleshoot complex issues and identify opportunities to improve performance and user experience.
Collaborate with academic staff, researchers and Digital Services.
