Job summary

Ministry of Justice in Wellington seeks a Principal Advisor to lead high-priority strategic work across the family violence and sexual violence prevention system. You will connect evidence, strategy, and delivery, design practical pathways for change, and support rapid delivery across a multi-agency landscape.

The role requires eight years of senior policy experience, excellent facilitation, and strong communication to Ministers, the Executive Board and senior leaders.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years leading strategy development, policy or complex public-sector work.
• Experience in social sector, children’s systems or family violence systems.
• Strong critical thinking with evidence-based advice.
• Applied systems thinking, design-led approaches, innovation and co-design.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex strategic workstreams and action plan priorities across the family violence system.
• Develop evidence-based advice for Ministers and senior leaders on strategy, investment and implementation.
• Use systems thinking and design methods to frame problems and test solutions.
• Convene cross-functional teams and sustain key relationships across the system.
• Design practical implementation pathways with clear plans and timelines.
• Anticipate risks and provide credible advice on sensitive issues.
• Provide intellectual leadership and mentoring across the team.
