Job summary

Westpac New Zealand seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the evolution of OS image management and automation across enterprise infrastructure. You will design, implement and continually improve automated OS builds and configuration management platforms, helping deliver secure, standardised OS platforms for both on‑premises and cloud services.

You will work in a collaborative engineering environment, driving end-to-end automation solutions and contributing to the Image Factory capability,

Qualifications

• Proven experience in infrastructure/platform engineering or similar
• Design, develop and deliver end-to-end automation from requirements through deployment
• Strong OS knowledge in Windows and Linux incl. build standards, provisioning, patching and compliance
• Extensive experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools (Packer, Terraform, Ansible)
• Scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar
• Expertise with source control and collaborative development (Git, GitHub, Bitbucket)
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, CloudBees, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
• Experience supporting highly available, secure enterprise platforms

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

As an experienced Senior Platform Engineer, you will lead the evolution of our operating system image management and automation capabilities across enterprise infrastructure.

This is a technical role where you’ll drive the design, implementation, and continual improvement of our automated operating system build and configuration management platforms. You’ll play a key role in implementing and enhancing our Image Factory capability.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you’ll help deliver secure, standardised, and automated operating system platforms that support both on-premises and cloud-based services.

Essential Skills

• Strong experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, or systems engineering environments.
• Experience designing, developing, and delivering end-to-end automation solutions, from requirements gathering and solution design through to implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Strong base knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems particularly around build standards, provisioning, patching, upgrade planning, vulnerability remediation, and compliance.
• Strong experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools including Packer, Terraform, Ansible.
• Strong scripting and automation capability using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Expertise with source control and collaborative development practices using Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, CloudBees, GitLab CI and Azure DevOps.
• Experience supporting highly available, resilient, and secure enterprise platforms.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with VMware technologies, particularly: VMware vSphere, VMware Aria Suite.
• Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals including: VLANs, Subnets, Firewalls.
• Experience working within Agile methodologies and practices.
• Experience working with vulnerability management and patching platforms including Nessus, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Red Hat Satellite
• Experience working within a complex or highly regulated environment.
• Exposure to cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
