Senior Software Engineer – Automation & AI
The Company:
A leading New Zealand organisation operating across the design, manufacture and delivery of residential, rural and commercial buildings is strengthening its technology capability as part of its continued growth and evolution.
With a nationwide network, established manufacturing capability and a strong local supply chain, the business delivers a broad range of building solutions across New Zealand. Its reputation has been built on the strength of its design, engineering, manufacturing and construction capability, combined with experienced local teams who understand the requirements of their individual markets.
This combination of scale, technical expertise and end-to-end delivery capability enables the organisation to manage projects ranging from individual builds through to large and complex development programmes.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a senior engineer to help turn innovative automation and AI prototypes into secure, scalable and production-ready solutions. Working closely with an internal engineering specialist and an established software development team, this role will bridge the gap between rapid experimentation and robust production delivery. The successful person will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with modern automation capability, practical AI experience and the confidence to establish standards, improve development practices and mentor others across the team.
Role Requirements:
The role requires someone who can assess, refine and productionise automation and AI-driven solutions, ensuring they meet appropriate standards for security, testing, reliability and maintainability. They will build and improve automation workflows, integrate internal applications with third-party SaaS platforms, troubleshoot and maintain existing solutions, and identify where automation or AI can improve business processes. They will also help establish the technical standards and governance required as the automation capability matures, while supporting and mentoring the wider development team in modern automation and AI-enabled engineering practices.
Technical Skills Required:
The successful candidate will have strong senior-level software engineering and systems integration capability, with hands‑on experience working with APIs, webhooks, authentication, data flows and third-party SaaS platforms. Experience with modern automation platforms such as n8n, Pipedream, Windmill, Make, Power Automate or similar is highly desirable, along with the ability to move comfortably between low‑code tools and traditional software development where required. Practical experience using AI and LLM technologies within applications or workflows is important, including areas such as intelligent data processing, document handling, agentic workflows or AI-assisted development. Experience within a C#/.NET environment would be advantageous, along with a strong understanding of testing, security, logging, monitoring, version control and production support.
