Environmental Protection Authority NZ in Wellington is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to provide specialist regulatory policy advice for the EPA. You will support complex policy programmes on high-sensitivity issues and work with the Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport to influence environmental law reform.

This role requires a regulatory policy background with experience in both strategic and operational policy, and you will help operationalise legislative changes while

Qualifications

• Experience in regulatory policy development and implementation
• 5+ years’ experience advising on matters of strategic, regulatory and/or operational policy in local or central government (as a guideline)
• Strong knowledge of policy frameworks and policy development process
• Strong knowledge of machinery of government processes, particularly in regards to the interface between parliament and the executive, and the role of crown entities
• Clear understanding of regulatory systems, including regulatory stewardship strategic, regulatory and operational policy
• Critical ability, including problem solving and analysis
• Ability to develop strong relationships and communicate well

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist regulatory policy advice for the EPA by supporting complex policy programmes on highly sensitive and risky issues.
• Work with policy ministry colleagues to influence environmental law reform and ensure legislative changes can be effectively operationalised.
• Support internal efforts to continually improve EPA regulatory performance to enhance environmental protection and reduce regulatory risk
