Job summary

NZ Defence Force in Wellington is seeking a Security Policy Advisor to lead the development and ongoing review of security policy across the Defence Technology Accelerator (Def TA). You will provide high‑level advice to senior leaders on governance, risk, regulatory matters, and translate requirements into practical policy solutions.

You will also deliver security surveys, risk assessments, and reports to support Def TA and its partner company, coordinating security services and fostering

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in protective security across personnel, physical and information security frameworks.
• Experience applying NZPSR/NZISM/NZDF policies in complex environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills with government, industry and internal teams.
• Excellent communication skills translating complex concepts into practical guidance for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation and review of security policy across Def TA.
• Provide high‑quality advice to senior leaders on security, governance, risk and regulatory matters.
• Translate legislative and government requirements into practical policy solutions.
• Develop policy instruments to support compliance with NZ Protective Security Requirements.
• Lead security projects from inception to evaluation.
• Build strong relationships with industry, academia and government partners.
• Monitor emerging security risks to inform future policy direction.
