Job summary

Apex Water Ltd in Auckland is seeking Senior Project Managers and Senior/Project Engineers to lead multi-disciplinary water and wastewater projects across Aotearoa. You will own projects from concept to completion, ensuring safety, on-time delivery and budget adherence.

The roles require NZ qualifications in engineering, extensive field experience, and the ability to coordinate contractors on-site, with travel to sites across New Zealand.

Qualifications

• B.E. or tertiary qualification in engineering is required for PMs and Engineers.
• Trade or equivalent experience is valued for Site Managers.
• 10+ years of experience for Senior Project Managers.
• 5+ years for Senior/Project Engineers (2–3 years in water/wastewater desirable).
• Solid understanding of end-to-end project delivery from design to completion.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with clients, sub-contractors, suppliers and internal teams.
• Oversee project delivery from planning through to completion, monitoring progress, budgets and schedules.
• Identify and manage risks, issues and opportunities, maintaining performance and safety.
• Ensure works meet quality, health & safety and environmental standards.
• Manage sub-contractors and site teams, promoting collaboration and high performance.
• Maintain project documentation, reporting and cost controls.
• Participate in project reviews and continuous improvement.

We're currently looking for Senior Project Managers and Senior / Project Engineers to join our growing team in the Auckland Region. Across these roles, you'll play a key part in delivering complex, meaningful projects that improve essential infrastructure and protect our environment.

You won't be pigeonholed in these roles! You'll take ownership from concept to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You'll work alongside a skilled, passionate, and collaborative team who take pride in what they do.

Please note: these roles are full-time, permanent positions and require regular travel to project sites.

The Successful Applicants Will

• Build strong, open relationships with clients, sub-contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure successful project outcomes and long-term partnerships.
• Oversee project delivery from planning through to completion — monitoring progress, budgets, schedules, and quality to ensure all targets are met.
• Identify and manage project risks, issues, and opportunities, taking proactive steps to maintain performance and safety standards.
• Ensure all works meet required quality, health & safety, and environmental compliance standards.
• Manage and support sub-contractors and site teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
• Demonstrated understanding of NZ construction contracts (e.g. NZS3910, NZS3916) and industry best practice.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date project documentation, reporting, and cost control records.
• Participate in project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to drive future success.
• Preferably able to demonstrate a strong understanding of NZ construction contracts (e.g. NZS3910, NZS3916) and industry best practice.

We're Looking For People Who

• Hold a relevant qualification - such as a B.E. or tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, or a related field (required for Project Managers and Engineers; trade or equivalent experience valued for Site Managers).
• Bring strong experience in multi disciplined Projects, with water or wastewater, civil, or mechanical construction sectors, with:
• 10+ years’ experience for Senior Project Managers
• 5+ years’ experience for Senior/Project Engineers (including 2-3 years in water/wastewater process or design engineering is desirable)
• Have a solid understanding of the end-to-end project delivery process, from design and planning through to commissioning and completion.
• Are confident working on-site, coordinating teams, and managing contractors to deliver high-quality, safe, and efficient outcomes.
• Current full New Zealand driver's license.
• Possess excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Are comfortable travelling and working on sites across Aotearoa as needed.
