Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer - Airvo Mechanical Response to join a cross-functional mechanical design team focused on advancing respiratory care devices.

You will lead technical projects, mentor engineers, investigate issues, implement design improvements and improve reliability, performance and manufacturing yield in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with electrical and software specialists.

Senior Product Development Engineer - Airvo Mechanical Response

About the Role

The role offers an opportunity to work in a mechanical design team, focused on advancing novel medical products. You will support the development and delivery of our respiratory support devices, investigating issues, implementing design enhancements, increasing production reliability, product performance and manufacturing yield. We need your help to ensure our products are as effective, safe, and successful as possible.

The systems that you will be working on involve a complex mix of mechanical systems, electrical hardware and custom software, so exceptional communication skills and the ability to work together in a cross functional group will be highly beneficial. This also gives you the opportunity to perform project management for small projects within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver project objectives in a fast-paced and changing environment.

You’ll be working in a team of 7 and surrounded by two other mechanical teams that share knowledge, expertise and support the training of new staff. As an Senior engineer, you’ll be able to quickly learn our processes and procedures, lead technical projects, mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to continuous improvements in our products, processes and ways of working.

Success in this role requires initiative, adaptability and sound engineering judgement, as projects can range from straightforward product improvements through to complex technical investigations and product redesigns.

Projects typically range from 3 to 18 months. This role suits someone who enjoys delivering outcomes quickly while managing multiple priorities across a varied project portfolio.

About You

You should have

• A formal engineering qualification in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical work and deliver engineering outcomes.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including technical investigations, root cause analysis and driving issues through to resolution.
• Proficient in product testing and technical report writing – clear documentation is a key part of medical product development.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skill, with ability to influence technical decisions.
• Foundational knowledge of plastic part design, material fundamentals and manufacturing processes.
• Proficient with 3D modelling using CAD software. (Creo, SolidWorks etc.)
