Job summary

Arvion Services is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Christchurch, NZ to lead complex fintech initiatives. You will stay hands‑on while shaping architecture, standards, and modernization efforts across teams, leveraging cloud-native approaches and AI-assisted development tools.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product, design, and compliance, and contribute production-grade code for business-critical systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of experience delivering production-grade software end-to-end.
• Strong frontend development experience with modern frameworks (Vue.js, React, etc.).
• Strong backend development experience (C#/.NET or Java/Kotlin/Go).
• Solid understanding of frontend fundamentals: responsive design, accessibility, performance, and internationalization.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Deep expertise in software architecture, system design, microservices, SOA, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience mentoring engineers through technical leadership, not people management.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor).
• Experience with AWS cloud services and modern deployment practices (CI/CD, SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, Lambda).
• Experience in payments/financial services or regulated industries.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering initiatives across the full technology stack with a hands-on approach.
• Define and drive technical standards, architecture decisions, and best practices across teams.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and technical guidance.
• Contribute production-grade code for critical systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Compliance, and Engineering to translate objectives into scalable solutions.
• Drive modernization, including migrating from legacy platforms to cloud-native architectures.
• Champion AI-powered development tools and integrate AI into the software lifecycle.
• Contribute to system architecture, scalability, performance, and operations.
