Job summary
The University of Auckland is seeking a Senior Technician – Plant Molecular Biology to join Technical Services. You will provide specialist technical support across plant biology teaching and research, ensuring facilities and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
You will coordinate resources, support practical sessions, develop lab protocols, and mentor students and staff while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Plant Science or related discipline.
- 3+ years' experience in plant cellular and molecular biology post-BSc.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical support across plant cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics.
- Support preparation and delivery of practical teaching sessions, including testing experiments, equipment and protocols.
- Coordinate laboratory resources, biological materials, equipment and facilities to support teaching and research.
- Develop, document and improve laboratory methods, protocols and processes.
- Maintain specialist equipment and ensure laboratories are safe, compliant and ready for use.
- Train, coach and support students, Teaching Assistants, researchers and laboratory users.
- Support health, safety, containment and regulatory requirements across assigned laboratories and facilities.
