Job summary

Papakura-based role for two Peer Support Specialists within a national for-purpose organisation delivering mental health, addiction, disability and housing services across Aotearoa. The positions are part-time, 24 hours/week (Mondays and Fridays) or 32 hours/week, joining an AOD service for adults 18+.

You’ll work in community settings, combining peer support with clinical input to support recovery and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience of mental distress and/or recovery from AOD.
  • PET training from a DHB-approved education provider.
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support), Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid certificate including CPR or the willingness to obtain.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver licence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide AOD assessment, treatment and outreach in a dual peer support and clinical model.
  • Meet tāngata whaiora in homes, parks or community living environments.
  • Build authentic connections and empower recovery journeys.
  • Collaborate with Clinicians to support holistic care.

Our client is a leading national for-purpose organisation providing mental health, addiction, disability, offender rehabilitation, wellbeing and housing services across Aotearoa. They are looking fortwo Peer Support Specialists to join their Papakura-based team and bring their own lived experience to a role where it can make a genuine difference.

There aretwo part-time opportunities available:

  • 24 hours per week – Mondays and Fridays are required
  • 32 hours per week

About the role

You’ll be part of a community-basedAlcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service supporting adults aged 18+ .

Rather than working solely from a traditional clinical setting, you’ll meet tāngata whaiora in places where they feel comfortable and connected – whether that’s in their home, a local park or a communal living environment.

Working within adual peer support and clinical model , you’ll partner equally with experienced Clinicians to provide holistic, culturally responsive AOD assessment, treatment and outreach.

Your lived experience will be a valuable part of your mahi. You’ll use your own recovery journey to build authentic connections, encourage hope, share your insights and empower tāngata whaiora to make choices that are right for them.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, authentic and confident using their lived experience in a professional setting.

You’ll need:

  • Lived experience of mental distress and/or alcohol and other drug recovery , with an established recovery journey. Please share details of your lived experience and recovery journey in your application.
  • Peer Employment Training (PET) from a DHB-approved education provider.
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support), Level 4 , or an equivalent qualification.
  • A currentFirst Aid certificate including CPR , or the willingness and ability to obtain one.
  • Afull, clean New Zealand driver licence .
