Job summary

Starship Child Health is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Paediatric Therapy team in the Chronic Pain Service, working part-time (24 hours per week) in an outpatient-focused role. The team provides complex pain assessment and targeted therapy for children and whānau, with opportunities for professional growth within an interdisciplinary setting.

The role requires NZ registration with an Annual Practising Certificate, 4+ years of post-graduate experience, and a commitment

Qualifications

About the Role

Starship Child Health has an opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Paediatric Therapy team, working part-time in the Starship Chronic Pain Service. This service is predominantly outpatient-based, with inpatient and community review if needed. We are a friendly, hard-working and skilled team, every day we provide; complex pain assessment, specific pain management, therapy and support to children predominantly in an outpatient setting. This is a permanent position (24hrs p/week) and the role designation is dependent on experience:

• Provide an occupational therapy service to children and adolescents with persistent or recurrent pain conditions
• Collaborate with the inter-professional team to provide a whānau-centred approach, demonstrating contemporary occupational therapy theory and practice, and establish enabling relationships with children and their whānau.
• Demonstrate culturally safe practice that encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, values and practice.
• Thrive within a vibrant, innovative and diverse setting amongst a supportive interdisciplinary team of consultants, a nurse specialist, physiotherapist, occupational therapists, psychology and team support
• The specialist aspect of the Chronic Pain Service is required to meet the needs of children and adolescents who have:
• Developed chronic pain as a result of an injury, illness, medical or surgical intervention
• A disability including, but not restricted to, functional and/or psychological impairment
• A requirement for a graduated rehabilitation programme from an inter-professional team that is beyond the capabilities of primary or secondary local services

The Chronic Pain team is a diverse and supportive interdisciplinary team within Starship Child Health, where Occupational Therapists contribute to evidence-based, whānau-centred care across inpatient and selected outpatient settings. We provide support and orientation to your practice contexts with robust opportunities for critical reflection on practice, including peer review and professional supervision, as well as on the job training, and development opportunities.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

• NZ registration as an Occupational Therapist with current Annual Practicing Certificate
• 4+ years of post-graduate clinical work experience
• We will consider part-time applicants for this role
• Experience working in paediatric rehabilitation or complex pain (advantageous)
• Proven experience working in paediatrics (desirable)
• Sound clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
• Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
• Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
• Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
