Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a prominent mining group with operations across South Africa, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mining Accountant to join their finance department. This role will be based in **Queenstown, Eastern Cape, ZA**, but will operate under a fully remote work arrangement, offering flexibility and work-life balance. The Senior Mining Accountant will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of mining operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cost control. You will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and efficiency of the mining division. This position requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles as applied to the mining industry, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently. Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the accounting functions for mining operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in accordance with IFRS.
• Develop and manage the annual operating budget and long-term financial forecasts for mining operations.
• Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
• Liaise with external auditors and provide support during the annual audit process.
• Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
• Provide financial support and guidance to operational managers and other departments.
• Assist in the development and implementation of financial systems and processes.
• Stay updated on industry-specific accounting practices and regulatory changes affecting the mining sector.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a professional qualification (e.g., CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA) is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years specifically within the mining industry.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African accounting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote work environment.
• Must have reliable internet access and a suitable home office setup in or near **Queenstown, Eastern Cape, ZA**.
