Job summary

Digitalgarage in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Consultant to lead end-to-end data platform builds using Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, delivering across ingestion, transformation, and medallion architecture. You’ll own workstreams, engage clients, and mentor junior engineers to raise delivery quality.

The role blends hands-on engineering with consulting, AI tooling, and data migrations for Dynamics 365, Power BI, and broader analytics initiatives, with hybrid flexibility across NZ.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on data engineering experience in data platforms or analytics
• Deep technical capability in Databricks (Delta, workflows, Autoloader) or Microsoft Fabric (lakehouse, DirectLake, pipelines)
• Strong SQL, Python, PySpark skills and modern ETL/ELT design
• Experience applying DevOps practices (Git, CI/CD, environment promotion)
• Excellent consulting skills: requirements gathering, workshops, estimating, stakeholder communication
• Familiarity with AI engineering tools, Power BI, semantic modelling, dbt, or Dynamics 365 data migrations
• Relevant certifications (Databricks Certified Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric DP-600/DP-700, Azure Data Engineer DP-203) valued

• Applying AI tools to streamline engineering workflows and help clients adopt AI on solid data foundations.
• Mentoring junior engineers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to reusable engineering patterns and standards.

Your Role

• Designing and delivering modern data platforms using Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, spanning ingestion, transformation, and medallion architecture.

Your Fit

• 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, with deep technical capability in Databricks (Delta, workflows, Autoloader) or Microsoft Fabric (lakehouse, DirectLake, pipelines).
• Strong expertise in SQL, Python, PySpark, modern ETL/ELT pipeline design, and medallion data modelling.
• Proven experience applying DevOps practices, including Git, CI/CD, and environment promotion.
• Excellent consulting skills—able to gather requirements, run workshops, estimate work independently, and communicate clearly with client stakeholders.
• Practical familiarity with AI engineering tools, along with exposure to Power BI, semantic modelling, dbt, or Dynamics 365 data migrations.
• Relevant certifications, such as Databricks Certified Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric (DP-600/DP-700), or Azure Data Engineer (DP-203), are highly valued.
