Job summary

WSP New Zealand is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support bid and project delivery teams with timely, commercial legal advice in Auckland or Wellington. The role focuses on reviewing engineering services contracts, managing risk, regulatory compliance, advising on insurance programs, and developing internal training to strengthen governance and contract delivery across the NZ business.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ PQE with experience advising construction/infrastructure or engineering industry, IT and professional services
• Degree in Law and eligibility to hold a Practising Certificate with the NZLS
• In-house legal experience in Engineering or Construction
• Extensive experience reviewing and negotiating engineering services or construction contracts, subcontracts, joint venture, alliance agreements and related commercial agreements
• Broad knowledge of New Zealand legislation including Health & Safety, litigation, competition law, IP, corporate and privacy law
• Excellent written and oral communications with ability to present complex information clearly to audiences

Responsibilities

• Review and negotiate engineering services contracts, subcontracts, joint venture and alliance agreements
• Proactively manage risk and regulatory compliance and governance policies
• Advise project delivery teams on contractual issues during delivery
• Advise on WSP insurance programme and manage claims with insurers
• Develop and implement internal training and education programmes
• Provide timely, commercial and robust legal advice to NZ operations
