Job summary

WSP New Zealand is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Auckland or Wellington teams. You will provide timely, commercial and robust legal advice to bid and project delivery teams on engineering services contracts and related agreements.

You will manage risk, regulatory compliance, insurance matters, and contribute to training programs while supporting WSP’s growth across New Zealand.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ PQE with experience advising the construction/infrastructure or engineering industry, IT and professional services.
• In-house legal experience in Engineering or Construction.
• Broad knowledge of NZ legislation including Health & Safety, litigation, IP, privacy and corporate law.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and negotiating engineering services contracts, subcontracts, joint venture and alliance agreements and related commercial agreements.
• Managing risk and regulatory compliance (health & safety, competition law) and governance policies.
• Advising project delivery teams on contractual issues during delivery.
• Advising on WSP insurance programme and claims with insurers.
• Developing and implementing internal training and education programmes.
• Providing timely, commercial and robust legal advice for New Zealand operations.
