Job summary

Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in Wellington is seeking a Senior IT Security Analyst to join the Security Operations team and IT Security Programme. You will lead penetration testing efforts, coordinate with stakeholders, and help secure the Ministry's technology infrastructure as part of a busy transformation agenda.

The role is hands-on, operates in a 24x7 environment, and includes after-hours on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Junior IT Security Analyst or similar looking to specialise further within security.
• An organised approach, with strong communication and stakeholder skills.
• Strong knowledge of IT security terminology, platforms, penetration testing, and common security threats.
• Knowledge in vulnerability management processes and tools.
• Experience in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating IT security risks and a familiarity with security framework and best practices for compliance.
• Previous experience fostering collaborative relationships across organisations.
• A proven ability to implement security measures, translate policies into documented standards, and drive security initiatives to completion.
• A self-starting approach, able to see where improvements are needed, and propose, lead, and implement change.
• Ability to produce formal reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A strong analytical mindset with a proactive approach to tackling complex security challenges and delivering effective solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT security incidents triage and analysis.
• Engage with projects, offer advice, and help deliver security solutions.
• Develop and deliver reporting on events, issues, and monthly updates.
• Build strong relationships across MSD and the IT community including the CISO team.
• Manage and support security products ensuring they are up-to-date and functioning.
• Identify and prevent threats through monitoring and staff behaviour analysis.
• Support implementation of standard operating procedures and awareness materials.
