Job summary

EROAD Ltd is seeking a genuinely senior Hardware Validation Engineer to validate the hardware in our in-vehicle products. You’ll work with a compact team, performing PCBAs and hardware validation, troubleshooting at board and system levels, and signing off products before release.

The role emphasizes mentoring peers, defining validation strategy, and collaborating with hardware design engineers. Based in Penrose/Auckland, NZ, with a strong growth trajectory in a global fleet tech company.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in Electronic, Electrical, or related discipline.
• 3+ years senior hardware validation experience (4-5 years total).
• Strong hardware validation background with ability to read schematics/datasheets.
• Hands-on QA for Android devices and Linux automation experience.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE COMPANY

EROAD is a global fleet management technology company that delivers GPS tracking, video telematics, compliance automation and driver safety tools to fleet operators through an integrated hardware-and-software platform, and recent turnover in its small Penrose hardware team has created an opening for a genuinely senior Hardware Validation Engineer to step in and take on responsibility immediately.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This role sits at the centre of validating the hardware that goes into EROAD's in-vehicle products, working closely with a small, tight-knit team.

• Carry out validation testing of PCBAs and other electronic and hardware components using standard test equipment and test boards
• Partner with hardware design engineers to drive validation of new in-vehicle hardware
• Troubleshoot complex issues at board and system level
• Evaluate design changes and feed results back into the design process
• Sign off on products ahead of release
• Mentor and peer review other engineers and contribute to validation strategy

WHAT YOU NEED

• An engineering degree in Electronic, Electrical or a related discipline
• At least 3+ years already operating at a senior level in electrical/electronic hardware validation (4-5 years' total experience) - this is not a first step into seniority
• A strong electrical engineering background with hardware validation experience, including the ability to read circuit schematics and hardware datasheets
• Board and system-level troubleshooting skills
• Hands-on software QA experience on Android devices
• Linux-level automation and test framework experience, including automated Python scripting
• Demonstrable prior experience mentoring, leading or peer-reviewing other engineers
• Hands-on familiarity with standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters and electronic loads
• Experience with Altium is highly preferred but any equivalent PCB design/schematic tool experience is fine
• Familiarity with AI tools is a bonus
• Hardware validation experience from any industry is welcome, automotive, telematics or IoT background is not required
