Job summary

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade in Wellington seeks a Senior Development Adviser—Governance and Inclusion to influence policy, programmes and partnerships across gender equality, disability inclusion and human rights in the Pacific region and beyond.

You will contribute to inclusive development and good governance by offering high-quality advisory support, shaping investments, and coordinating with partners to deliver equitable outcomes. This is a fixed-term role until 30 June 2027.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of governance, inclusive development or international development policy experience.
• Experience in Pacific or developing country contexts.
• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori and MFAT values.
• Strong written and verbal communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide policy, technical and programme advice on governance and inclusion in the Pacific and other regions.
• Lead design and oversight of development investments aligning with partner priorities.
• Analyze gender equality and inclusion issues, identify risks and opportunities.
• Represent MFAT in bilateral, regional and multilateral engagements.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
