Job summary

Wellington City Council is seeking an experienced Senior GIS Analyst to lead complex geospatial projects within City Planning. You will deliver analyses, build automated workflows, and create insightful maps and dashboards to support Wellington's long-term planning and decision-making.

Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, mentoring, and staying ahead with emerging technologies are essential. This role offers a dynamic environment shaping Wellington's future.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in GIS, Geography, Data Science, or IT.
• At least 7 years' experience in GIS, spatial analytics, or related discipline.
• Advanced experience with the Esri ArcGIS suite.
• Strong skills in spatial analysis, cartography, and geospatial data management.
• Experience with Python scripting, automation, and data integration.
• Knowledge of spatial and relational databases.
• Experience developing dashboards and visualisations using tools such as Power BI or ArcGIS Dashboards.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• A collaborative approach and experience working across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complex GIS, spatial data, and analytical projects.
• Undertake advanced spatial, demographic, network, and scenario analysis.
• Develop automated data pipelines and GIS workflows using tools such as Python, SQL, APIs, and FME.
• Integrate GIS with enterprise data platforms and business systems.
• Create high-quality maps, dashboards, 3D visualisations, and digital information products.
• Provide specialist advice on geospatial solutions, data management, and analytics.
• Support and mentor colleagues while building GIS capability across the organisation.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, innovation, and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted solutions.
• Contribute to key planning initiatives that help shape Wellington's future.
