Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking an experienced geotechnical engineer to take ownership of technical delivery across diverse projects from investigation to construction support. You will mentor graduates and intermediates, guiding technical judgement and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree required.
• 10+ years geotechnical consulting experience.
• Working towards Chartered status or already chartered.
• Solid grasp of New Zealand regulatory environment.
• Confidence with geotechnical design software and QA practices.
• Interest in developing people, not just projects.
• Strong health and safety knowledge in consulting/site environments.

Responsibilities

• Leading the technical delivery of geotechnical projects from investigation through to design, reporting and construction support.
• Preparing complex designs, reports and drawings for natural hazards, land development, subdivision and infrastructure projects.
• Mentoring and supporting graduate and intermediate engineers—reviewing their work and developing their judgement.
• Reviewing reports, calculations and drawings to ensure recommendations are sound and fit for purpose.
• Interpreting field data, subcontractor results and GIS information into clear engineering advice.
• Instructing and reviewing 2D and 3D drawings produced by CAD technicians.
• Day-to-day project management—scoping, programming and keeping work on time and budget.

• Mentoring and supporting graduate and intermediate engineers — reviewing their work, developing their judgement, and building their confidence in the field and at the desk
• Reviewing reports, calculations and drawings to ensure recommendations are sound, defensible and fit for purpose
• Interpreting field data, subcontractor results and GIS information into clear, well-reasoned engineering advice
• Instructing and reviewing 2D and 3D drawings produced by CAD technicians
• Day-to-day project management — scoping, programming and keeping work moving to time and budget

What you'll bring

• An relevant engineering degree
• 10+ years' geotechnical consulting experience
• Working towards Chartered status (or already there)
• A solid grasp of the New Zealand regulatory environment
• Confidence with industry-standard geotechnical design software and a disciplined approach to quality assurance
• A genuine interest in developing people, not just projects
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and how it applies in a consulting and site environment
