Job summary

The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ) is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join the Wellington-based Finance team. You will provide senior technical accounting expertise across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, consolidation, audit support, and financial advice.

Qualifications

  • CA/CPA qualification required.
  • Extensive financial accounting and reporting experience.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis; experience with Xero.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journals, reconciliations, management reports, and year-end accounting.
  • Support annual financial reporting, including working papers, disclosures, financial statements, and audit requirements.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, financial analysis, and management reporting.
  • Lead and support the annual PCANZ Group consolidation.
  • Provide technical accounting advice to internal stakeholders, congregations, and presbyteries.
  • Prepare financial reports, commentary, and papers for management and governance.
  • Support improvements to finance systems, processes, controls, and reporting.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Wellington-based Finance team.

Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager, you will provide seniortechnicalaccountingexpertiseacross financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, consolidation, audit support, and financial advice. You will play a key role in preparing high-quality financial information, supporting governance reporting,maintainingcompliance,strengthening finance processes and controls, andhelping stakeholders understand and use financial information effectively.

What you’ll be doing
  • Preparing monthly journals, reconciliations, management reports, and year-end accounting work.
  • Supporting annual financial reporting, including working papers, disclosures, financial statements, and audit requirements.
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, financial analysis, and management reporting.
  • Leadingandsupporting the annual PCANZ Group consolidation process.
  • Providingtechnical accounting advice to internal stakeholders, congregations, and presbyteries.
  • Preparing financial reports, commentary, and supporting papers for management and governance.
  • Supporting improvements to finance systems, processes, documentation, controls, and reporting.
What we’re looking for
  • Chartered Accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent) qualification.
  • Significant financial accounting and reporting experience.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Exceland data analysiscapability and experience with accounting systems such as Xero.
  • The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
  • Sound professional judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a small team environment.

Experience in the not-for-profit, charity, church, or public benefit entity sector, consolidation across multiple reporting entities,and knowledge of PBE accounting standards would beadvantageous.
