Genesis Energy is seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to shape environmental management across assets and projects. You will lead policy and planning inputs, manage external consultants, and build strong relationships with mana whenua, regulators, and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The role emphasizes compliance, strategic environmental planning, and delivering practical solutions in a dynamic energy sector.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in environmental/resource management, planning, or related field.
• Proven environmental management and policy experience in industry, government, or consulting.
• Strong understanding of Resource Management legislation and planning processes.
• Practical experience in project management and conflict resolution.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Lead Genesis Energy’s input into environmental policy and planning processes.

What you’ll do:

We have rare opportunity for a versatile environmental professional to join the Genesis team during a particularly exciting period in the energy sector. As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you will play a key role in environmental management, and take a leading role in policy and planning processes, providing technical support for Genesis Energy's existing and proposed electricity generation assets. This role would suit an all-rounder and includes resource consent acquisition, environmental management, policy and compliance. You will also support fostering and strengthening long-term, meaningful relationships with mana whenua, stakeholders, and local communities where we operate.

Reporting to our Environmental Policy and Projects Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

• Supporting environmental management, consent acquisition, implementation, monitoring, and compliance at Genesis Energy's assets in alignment with our core business values and relevant statutory legislation
• Leading Genesis Energy’s input into environmental policy and planning processes, to support their effective application across the company’s current and future operations
• Supporting the development and maintenance of positive, external relationships by engaging with regulatory bodies, resource users, environmental groups, interest groups, Iwi, mana whenua, and other stakeholders
• Managing consultants who provide environmental, technical, legal, and planning services to Genesis Energy
• Offering technical advice and leadership in response to planned works or environmental issues at Genesis Energy's generation assets, including statutory and compliance requirements, evaluating technical information, scoping additional information needs, and ongoing assessment of environmental effects
• Supporting the development of corporate environmental policies, strategies, and reporting requirements.

What you’ll need:

You are a passionate environmental expert who thrives on collaboration, and you approach complex challenges with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. You communicate effortlessly, whether you're leading a project, negotiating with stakeholders, or offering technical guidance.

• A tertiary qualification in environmental/resource management, planning, or a related field
• Proven environmental management and environmental planning & policy experience in a related industry, local/central government, or consulting
• A significant understanding of the application of Resource Management legislation and environmental statutory and planning processes
• Practical experience in project management and conflict resolution
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
