Job summary

Connetics is seeking a Senior Primary Design Engineer / Team Lead to join our Substations & Green Grids team in Christchurch, NZ. You will lead the day-to-day workload, deliver substation design projects, and mentor engineers while growing the team’s capability.

This hybrid role combines technical engineering with leadership, offering opportunities to drive complex projects from scoping through construction and to develop the team’s skills and capacity.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation primary design within distribution and/or sub-transmission environments.
• Experience leading a team, or aiming to move into a Team Lead role.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop engineers.
• Strong project, stakeholder and customer management skills.
• Relevant Level 7 engineering qualification; CPEng desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day workload and workflow of the Substations & Green Grids team.
• Deliver substation design projects across distribution and sub-transmission networks.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to engineers.
• Lead complex multidisciplinary projects from scoping to construction.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer / Team Lead to join our Substations & Green Grids team in Christchurch.

This is a great opportunity to combine strong technical engineering capability with leadership. You'll play a key role in delivering complex primary design projects while supporting, mentoring and growing the capability of the team around you.

We're also open to experienced Senior Design Engineers who are ready to take the next step into a Team Lead role and combine their technical expertise with leading and developing a team.

You'll be involved in:

• Leading the day-to-day workload and workflow of the Substations & Green Grids team
• Delivering substation design projects across distribution and sub-transmission networks
• Providing technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to engineers
• Leading complex multidisciplinary projects from scoping through to construction
• Driving quality, continuous improvement and safe engineering outcomes

About You

You'll thrive in this role if you have:

• Strong experience in substation primary design within distribution and/or sub-transmission environments
• Experience leading a team, or a strong desire to take the next step into a Team Lead role
• Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop engineers
• Strong project, stakeholder and customer management skills
• A relevant Level 7 engineering qualification, with CPEng or working towards it desirable
