Job description

We are seeking a passionate Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer with relevant design experience to join our dynamic Heavy Industry team. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to design electrical infrastructure that supports major energy users in the electrification, growth, and maintenance of their assets.

You will be working within a multidisciplinary team, using our knowledge of the electricity supply industry to help major energy users on their journey.

The ideal candidate will join the team in our head office in Christchurch, however, Auckland or Wellington locations may be considered for the right candidate.

• Work across HV and LV systems, rather than being confined to one narrow discipline.
• Solve practical electrical challenges for major industrial and infrastructure customers.
• Work alongside experienced specialists across electrical, civil, structural and geotechnical engineering.
• Contribute to electrification, renewable generation and energy storage projects.

Your work may include:

• Undertaking feasibility investigations, concept studies, detailed designs.
• Design of HV and LV electrical systems for major energy users across sectors such as rail, seaports, airports, hospitals, food processing, and mining.
• Design of renewable energy systems for islanded networks, including solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
• Design of Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure.
• Completing primary design, including (but not limited to) equipment specification, site layout development, equipment foundations and support structures, earthing, lightning, and cable design.
• Completing secondary and protection design, including (but not limited to) single line diagrams, LVAC and DC schematic development, communications, protection studies and settings files.
• Coordinating project inputs from designers, draughting, civil, structural, and geotechnical specialists.
• Preparing high-quality written reports, drawings and design files.

The following requirements are considered essential for the role:

• An Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree.
• At least 5 years’ experience delivering electrical engineering design projects, including experience with HV and LV systems.
• Strong technical writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.

The following requirements are desirable, but not essential for the role:

• Experience in multiple electrical engineering disciplines (i.e., primary, secondary, protection).
• Experience working with major energy users (e.g., rail, seaports, airports, hospitals, food processing, mines, etc).
• Experience working on renewable energy or islanded network developments, including solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
• Experience undertaking site investigations, commissioning or testing activities.
