Job summary

New Zealand Customs Service is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to provide technical leadership and build, improve and support secure, reliable products. You will mentor engineers, coordinate sprints, and design scalable CI/CD pipelines that meet NZ Information Security Manual requirements.

Qualifications

• At least five years’ experience in software development and/or infrastructure engineering.
• Experience in product-led software development with diverse technologies.
• Hands-on experience across the product lifecycle and supporting business-critical services.
• Strong knowledge of development languages, databases, DevOps practices, build pipelines, automation, APIs and cloud concepts.
• Understanding of networking, security compliance, capacity management, UX and product development.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and coach engineers, helping the team grow its technical capability and adopt new technologies and ways of working.
• Plan and coordinate sprints, deployments and incident response activity.
• Contribute to the design of technical solutions and produce clear design and operational documentation.
• Implement and test solutions that meet Customs standards and customer requirements.
• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Build secure, sustainable and supportable products aligned with NZ Information Security Manual and Customs cyber security requirements.
• Provide operational support for business-critical products and services, including on-call participation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver valuable outcomes.
