Senior Design Engineer - Roading

Job summary

The Christchurch City Council is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead roading project design within the Capital Programme and provide expert advice on how roading design affects the stormwater network.

You will mentor team members, drive design quality, and collaborate with W&W and other Units to ensure compliant, innovative outcomes while delivering the Council's priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent tertiary qualification (e.g. relevant Diploma)
• 10-15 years relevant experience involving roading design and consequential stormwater design refinements
• Understanding the impact roading design solutions have on stormwater design
• Demonstrated experience in project delivery, cost estimation and the preparation of contract documents
• Experience in designing road pavements and evaluating the effects of contaminants and conflicting utilities upon roading design
• Experience of incorporating water quality improvement features into roading design e.g. Rain Gardens

Responsibilities

• Input into scheme options, undertaking detailed roading design (taking into consideration the impacts on stormwater design), defining and solving complex design problems, integrating the needs of the site, the requirements of the client, public interest, statutory requirements and Council priorities
• Reviewing Transport roading designs in conjunction with W&W stormwater representative
• Co-ordinating with asset teams & project managers when existing stormwater pipes are deficient
• Providing design leadership of roading projects covering the design and implementation phases of the project
• Preparing cost estimates for roading projects by interpreting project drawings and relevant project documents
• Contributing to and assisting the Team Leader with the ongoing professional growth and development of staff by mentoring, coaching and empowering others.
• Proactively maintaining and strengthening relationships between the PTS Unit and internal and external stakeholders

About the team | Ko te rōpū nei

We provide Civil Engineering services that enable the delivery of the Transport improvements within the Christchurch City Council's capital programme.

We collaborate closely with other teams within the PTS Unit such as Water & Waste (W&W), Landscape & Planning, Survey and Contract Management to service asset units in Council. New road related stormwater (RRSW) designs must ensure the stormwater network is either brought to current standards or no worse off by 3D changes to the road surface. We are committed to continuous improvement to ensure that our design services are efficient, sustainable, aligned with technological advancements.

• Hours of work - 37.5-40 hours per week
• Position - Fulltime Permanent Position
• Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
• Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $115,466 - $128,295 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
