Senior Civil Engineer - Stormwater

The opportunity

Our work ranges from engineering and consenting for large residential and industrial developments to landscape assessments of roads and wetlands, and the building of sophisticated flood models for urban catchments and major transport infrastructure.

Whether leading delivery or contributing specialist expertise, we work closely with iwi, partners, and stakeholders to achieve positive results for our clients, always with heart and excellence.

With exciting projects and opportunities ahead, we are seeking an exceptional Senior Civil Engineer - Stormwater to provide civil engineering design with a focus on stormwater for our clients in Auckland and across New Zealand. Your skills will also complement our team of water specialists, environmental engineers, hydraulic modellers and scientists in the fields of water infrastructure and land development.

Key responsibilities

• Infrastructure design, with a focus on stormwater
• Preparation of technical engineering reports and calculations.
• Project management to help ensure projects are to scope, budget and schedule.
• A more senior role would include full ownership of more complex projects.
• Client management (regular communication, project updates).
• Undertaking site inspections and collecting field data
• 3910 contract management
• Contribute to building Awa's capability and culture.
• Owning client project portfolios, contributing to client strategy
• Developing existing and new client relationships.
• Winning new work through existing or new clients, preparation of proposal and contracts.
• Guiding, leading, training and mentoring intermediate and junior staff.

What we’re looking for

We welcome candidates with track record in most or all the following:

• Pragmatic and hands-on, focused on great outcomes for clients and company growth
• An adaptive and nimble mindset, able to work fluidly across offices & people
• Strong commercial acumen
• A genuine interest in Te Ao Māori
• Undertaking three waters infrastructure design, with a focus on stormwater
• Design of in stream remediation works, stormwater ponds, wetlands and other nature-based solutions
• Working with a range of disciplines - planning, ecology, landscape architecture, and engineering
• Familiarity with local council regulations
• Stormwater and water modelling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPANET, SSA, and SWMM
• Experience in 2D hydraulic modelling, blue/green infrastructure, NZS 3910 contract management and land development engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field
• CPEng or actively working towards
• 7 to 12 years’ experience in infrastructure design
• Strong time management and project management skills
• Excellent communication and writing abilities.
