Job summary

Christchurch City Council is seeking a Senior Democratic Services Advisor to provide specialist governance support to the Council, its committees and elected members. You will offer expert advice on democratic processes, ensure legislative requirements are met and help facilitate high-quality decision-making across the organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of local government, providing specialist advice and support that enables effective democratic decision-making.

As a Senior Democratic Services Advisor, you'll be part of Legal and Democratic Services delivering end-to-end governance support to Council, its committees and elected members. You'll provide expert advice on democratic processes, ensure legislative requirements are met and help facilitate high-quality decision-making across the organisation.

Working closely with Elected Members, the Executive Leadership Team and Council officers, you'll build strong relationships and become a trusted advisor.

No two days are the same in this fast-paced environment, so you'll need to be comfortable managing competing priorities, responding to changing demands, and working to tight deadlines. Your ability to see the bigger picture while maintaining exceptional attention to detail will be key to your success

You're a confident and credible professional with a strong sense of integrity, discretion, and sound judgement. You thrive in complex environments and can provide clear, practical advice, even when working under pressure.

  • Hours of work - 37.5 – 40 hours per week
  • Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street.
  • Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $115,466 p.a. to $128 , 295 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
