Job summary

NZ Transport Agency – Christchurch, South Island is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead delivery of enterprise data solutions and shape our modern data platform. You will balance leadership with hands-on delivery, guiding data pipelines, analytics, and AI initiatives across squads while advancing engineering practices.

You'll mentor engineers, drive DataOps and governance, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure data solutions that meet NZTA's ambitious analytics goals.

Qualifications

Design, build and operate enterprise-scale data platforms and pipelines.
Advanced SQL and Python with Databricks experience.
Experience with cloud-based data platforms and Lakehouse patterns.
Ability to influence stakeholders and lead across squads.
Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

Lead complex data delivery initiatives and set engineering standards.
