Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Data Engineer who designs, develops and maintains high quality data solutions with a strong emphasis on Java in the Data Platforms and AI team. You will lead scalable, secure data platforms and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust pipelines, streaming solutions and APIs.

The role requires hands-on Snowflake, dbt, Python and Spark experience, plus SQL, Airflow and modern data architecture knowledge.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Snowflake experience, including development, optimization and ops.
• Practical dbt experience for transformation, ELT and analytics engineering.
• Advanced Python programming for data solutions on cloud platforms.
• Strong SQL development with query optimization and data transformations.
• Experience with Apache Spark (PySpark/Spark SQL) for large-scale processing.
• Proven ability to design and maintain scalable data pipelines.
• Experience building, scheduling and orchestrating workflows with Airflow.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing, modeling and modern architecture.
• Experience delivering cloud data solutions using Snowflake, dbt, Python, SQL and Azure.
