Job summary

Techspace Consulting is seeking a skilled Data Engineer in New Zealand to join a Bay of Plenty client building an in-house data platform from scratch. You will contribute to data gathering, engineering and analytics, delivering scalable pipelines and BI solutions with hybrid work options.

You will work within a collaborative team on cutting‑edge projects, including Power BI, SQL Server development, and data governance capabilities, while enjoying brand new offices and flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years delivering data solutions.
• Experience across data gathering, engineering, analysis and visualization.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud data platforms preferred.
• Ability to implement robust data pipelines and governance.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable data pipelines.
• Oversee ETL/ELT design and Power BI reporting.
• Manage SQL Server data models, stored procedures, and security.
• Handle data governance and privacy compliance.
• Contribute to development using PowerShell and .NET languages.

You will, as part of a collaborative team, contribute to the development of a brand new data platform usingyour data gathering, preparation, engineering and analytical experience. Key responsibilities include:

• Data Engineering; design and develop scalable and reusable data pipelines
• Power BI encompassing Dimensional Modelling, overseeing ETL/DI design and implementation, Reporting Services/front-end report design and build, Analysis Services, SharePoint/Power Platform integration
• Data development (SQL Server 2008+, T-SQL, stored procedures, XML, JSON, ETL/ELT development, Service Broker/messaging integration, security, good diagnostic skills, instrumenting & metering pipelines)
• Database administration (SQL Server 2008+, 3NF design principals, performance monitor & enhance, auditing, security)
• General development (PowerShell/scripting, VB.NET and/or C#.NET, good diagnostic skills, instrumenting & metering experience)

Skills & Experience required:

• Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience implementing Data solutions.
• Experience in roles that cover data gathering, engineering, analysis and visualisation. Prefer SharePoint work & integration exposure.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud data platforms preferred
• Develop Fit for purpose/Fit for future Data Platform incl. Extract Transform and Load process
• Data governance and ability to comply with Privacy Act
• An enthusiastic and hardworking attitude with the ability to work flexible and sometimes extended hours (including weekends).
