Job summary

placeMe IT Recruitment in Wellington is looking for a senior Data Engineer to design and implement scalable data architectures that serve a global audience. You will own end-to-end data pipelines, from ingestion to analytics, and drive improvements as the platform grows.

You will work with Python and SQL, leverage Snowflake/Redshift/ClickHouse, and apply Terraform and CI/CD practices to deliver reliable data capabilities in AWS. A proven track record in large-scale data migrations is essential.

This is a SaaS Data platform that reaches a global audience with its roots firmly planted in Welly (there's no off-shoring of people to Canada in this company!)

You’ll be tasked with building the architecture to scale the data capability globally as user traffic and ingested data grows significantly. The platform is already live and gaining huge traction across the globe. You’ll be coming on to take it to the next level as it moves to the next release.

You’ll have the real-world battle stories—knowing "what actually breaks" in a production migration, what tradeoffs matter beyond vendor marketing, and how to adapt.

You’ll have the ability to communicate tradeoffs clearly via well-structured, data-informed written narratives to both technical leadership and business stakeholders.

Finally, you’ll have a curiosity about how data pipelines connect to real-world public networks, APIs, and related systems.

• Data Warehousing: Proven experience architecting and migrating large-scale data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, or ClickHouse - you choose the platform)
• Languages & Querying: Advanced proficiency in Python and complex SQL optimisation.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Deep, hands-on experience with native AWS data integration tools.
• Infrastructure as Code: Proven implementation of Terraform and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Data Modelling: Expert understanding of high-scale data partitioning, schema design, and query performance tuning.
• Nice to Have: Exposure to machine learning platforms or data science systems.

This is not a "grow into it" role. We need someone who's been there before and knows what they're doing.
