Job summary

Westpac New Zealand Limited is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain reliable data pipelines for FATCA, CRS and PTR regulatory reporting. You will ensure data is delivered on time, traceable and audit ready in a modern cloud data platform.

You will bring hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, Scala, SQL, and end-to-end ETL/ELT, plus AWS data services such as Glue, S3, RDS/Aurora and DataSync. Collaboration with DIP teams and CI/CD workflows is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience as Data Engineer on cloud-based data platforms.
• Proficient in Python and PySpark for data transformation and pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills for extraction, transformation and validation.
• Experience building end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines in complex ecosystems.
• Knowledge of regulatory reporting data requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines for FATCA, CRS and PTR.
• Ensure on-time, traceable, auditable data delivery across regulatory workloads.
• Collaborate with data teams and DIP for data ingestion and integration.
• Maintain CI/CD and deployment automation for pipelines.

Job description

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

You will design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines that enable accurate and compliant regulatory reporting across FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), CRS (Common Reporting Standard), and PTR (Prescribed Transaction Reporting), ensuring data is delivered on time, traceable, and audit ready.

• Required Proven experience as a Data Engineer working in modern cloud-based data platforms
• Strong hands‑on experience with Python and PySpark for data transformation, pipeline development, and large‑scale data processing
• Experience with Scala (preferred for Spark‑based processing) within distributed data environments
• Advanced SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and validation
• Experience designing and building end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines across complex enterprise data ecosystems
• Strong experience working with AWS data services, including: AWS Glue (ETL / Spark‑based transformations using PySpark) Amazon S3 (data lake storage, partitioning, and dataset management) AWS RDS / Aurora (structured storage for processed datasets) AWS DataSync (data ingestion from DIP into AWS pipelines)
• Experience working with DIP (Data Integration Platform) for upstream data ingestion and integration into regulatory pipelines
• Experience with CloudBees (Jenkins‑based CI/CD) for pipeline deployment, automation, and release management
• Strong understanding of batch processing, orchestration, and scheduling of regulatory data pipelines
