Job summary
Westpac New Zealand is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, build and maintain reliable data pipelines for regulatory reporting across FATCA, CRS and PTR. You will ensure data is delivered on time, traceable and audit-ready.
You will work with Python, PySpark, SQL and AWS data services in a cloud-based environment, shaping end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines across complex enterprise data ecosystems. This role offers a supportive team, opportunities for growth and a strong focus on data quality
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer on modern cloud data platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and PySpark for data transformation and pipeline development.
- Experience with Scala (preferred for Spark) within distributed data environments.
- Advanced SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, reconciliation and validation.
- Experience designing end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines across complex enterprise ecosystems.
- Experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, RDS/Aurora, DataSync).
- Experience with DIP for upstream data ingestion and regulatory pipelines.
- Familiarity with CloudBees (Jenkins-based CI/CD) for deployment and release management.

You will design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines that enable accurate and compliant regulatory reporting across FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), CRS (Common Reporting Standard), and PTR (Prescribed Transaction Reporting), ensuring data is delivered on time, traceable, and audit ready.
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer working in modern cloud-based data platforms
- Strong hands‑on experience with Python and PySpark for data transformation, pipeline development, and large-scale data processing
- Experience with Scala (preferred for Spark-based processing) within distributed data environments
- Advanced SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and validation
- Experience designing and building end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines across complex enterprise data ecosystems
- Strong experience working with AWS data services, including:
- AWS Glue (ETL / Spark-based transformations using PySpark)
- Amazon S3 (data lake storage, partitioning, and dataset management)
- AWS RDS / Aurora (structured storage for processed datasets)
- AWS DataSync (data ingestion from DIP into AWS pipelines)
- Experience working with DIP (Data Integration Platform) for upstream data ingestion and integration into regulatory pipelines
- Experience with CloudBees (Jenkins-based CI/CD) for pipeline deployment, automation, and release management
- Strong understanding of batch processing, orchestration, and scheduling of regulatory data pipelines
