Job summary

ASB Bank in Auckland is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and maintain high-quality data solutions enabling trusted insights and decision-making across ASB.

You'll lead data pipelines, apply modern engineering practices, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable platforms while aligning with risk, governance and security standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years experience in data engineering or data warehousing.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, including optimisation and productionisation.
• Experience with data integration, CI/CD, and modern data architectures.
• Exposure to cloud-native platforms, streaming technologies, or containerisation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Awareness of risk, security, and governance considerations in data environments.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team in Auckland.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality data solutions that enable trusted insights and decision-making across ASB.

Working within a collaborative, agile environment, you’ll contribute to the development of scalable data pipelines and platforms, while partnering with stakeholders to understand and deliver against business needs.

In this role, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data engineering processes
• Build reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions using modern data engineering practices

We’re looking for someone with strong technical capability with minimum 5 years experience, a collaborative mindset, and strong understanding of dbt and Snowflake:

• Significant experience working with data engineering, data warehousing, or large-scale data platforms
• Strong SQL and Python skills, including optimisation and productionisation
• Experience with data integration, CI/CD, and modern data architectures
• Exposure to cloud-native platforms, streaming technologies, or containerisation
• Strong understanding of data structures, data modelling, and engineering principles
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A proactive approach, with a focus on quality, improvement, and delivery
• Awareness of risk, security, and governance considerations in data environments
